DISEC
The agenda item "The Global Challenge of Illicit Arms Trade and Small Arms Proliferation" for the Disarmament & International Security Committee (GA:1 DISEC) is about tackling the common and unregulated spread of small arms and lightweight weapons (SALW). These factors lead to more conflicts, terrorism, organized crime, and violations against human rights all around the globe. This problem presents major dangers to international peace and security especially in zones with ongoing conflicts or regions that have weak legislative systems. The committee will investigate ways on how they can strengthen global cooperation step up arms control treaties such as the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT), enhance border safety measures, also promote responsible weapon trade so said weapons do not end up being used by incorrect individuals. Delegates will also examine and recognize the role of technological advancements, and strategies for disarmament at a national level to lessen this increasing worldwide threat towards security.
